Recently we Introduced you to Karen Yang & Belleville with the promise of more to come and since then, we know you’ve been holding your breath (you better have!). Well good news is, you can now exhale. We first spotted Karen’s work at the Sportsgirl National Graduate show and since then her prints and colors had us in a captivated trance. After playing dress ups with Lee, it looks like the trance has deepened.
Have you ever put on something that felt so nice against your skin you didn’t want to return it to your friend of that rack it’s chain onto. Yep, this was what happen to us. Apart from being statement makers, Karen somehow managed to work lightweight, temperature controlled and comfortable into the mix. I know this reads terribly like we’re describing apartments for realty ads but we’re not kidding! Judging for the amount shows Karen is doing at the moment, it’s abundantly clear that we’re not the only ones in love.
We had so many shots we loved, we couldn’t help but split this post in two. Details of Lee’s accessories and the clothing that has been paired with the Belleville line will be available in the next post. Follow what Karen is up to on her Facebook page, and lastly, Karen…if you decide to sell this collection, you know there’s a nice loving spot for it over here at Bright Green Laces.

Earlier this month, we were invited by the lovely people at Bonel PR to attend Winston Wolfe’s SS14 photographic and short film exhibition at Luxe Studios.
The evening was filled with a fashionable crowd and some familiar faces who had all walked through a beautiful floral archway into the gallery space, which featured photographs by Pierre Toussaint. The photographs themselves were intimate portraits of the stunning Miriam Adler wearing Kristie Kahler’s edgy leather pieces that are the foundation of the label.
We’ve been a little naughty lately. Truth is, with all the fashion week hulla-ba-loo, events and other projects we’ve got in the works, our team is fall on the floor exhausted or tipsy. That’s no excuse though so we promise more posts coming your way soon, and since it’s been a while since we’ve seen an outfit post, lets start there.
All the frenzied photography of the runway and it seems we forgot to take outfit shots so thank you Epique for providing these images from Day one of Mercedes Fashion Week. Her style shots are inspiring so if you get the chance, you should check out her blog.
My favourite piece from this outfit has to be the dress coat. In a light weight but warm neoprene and all the zippered off section it’s perfect for almost any weather and falls beautifully into structured 3D shapes due to the stiffness and generosity of the fabric. Adidas originals & Opening Ceremony, you never disappoint.
Last November, we were invited to attend the Shop The Collection event, featuring items Sasha-Rose’sWar Stories SS 12/13 collection launched back in April.
Fans of the Australian Project Runway series may recognise Sasha-Rose Hartley as being one of the contestants gunning for the big prize in season 4, and it’s easy to see why she was competing against the best and brightest emerging design talent.
Our favourite pieces from the collection – Reen’s pick was the lovely Viper vest dress. Love the dyed leather that is in this collection. My fav was the Organza Linden pants, which don’t look like much when they’re being held in an unflattering manner by the most awkward-looking person in the room.
War Stories showcased Sasha-Rose’s flair for tailored pieces with a slight masculine edge combined with feminine pastel ice-cream colours that were right on trend for spring (and look how amazing those pants look on someone who was clearly made to be wearing them!).
In addition to shopping the collection, you could shop the samples rack. I picked up a super cool leather and wool blazer. Perfect for those chilly autumn and winter days.
Bright Green Laces was invited to this event by A Series of Fortunate Events. We’ll be showing the latest line to be released in August in just a few posts!
Someone told me summer is over. If I wasn’t a politer person who knows the breakdown of seasons to months of the year, I would have called them a dirty rotten liar. The sun has been beaming down its vitamin D rays for the past few weeks and despite it being April, it still feels like the beginning of the year? The beginning of the year always means ole four eyes needs a new pair of trendy frames.
I hate glasses shopping. It’s always a night mare finding frames I’m guarenteed to like for at least an entire year and then I’ve got to think of how comfortable, heavy, bold, and versatile they are before I break down and just purchance whichever of the 30 in my hands I haven’t accidently dropped in my ‘try on frenzy’.
Next comes the costing…”oh your eyes are special so we have to put jfsjkfbkgj on your lenses and that will cost another million dollars“. Ok so that might be a little bit of a hyperbole but you get the point right? The bottom line is less shopping for PixelHazard & I don’t lie the sound of that one bit!
Fortunately OscarWylee have cut down the anxiety significantly. In their 6 step process, all you need to do is search for your perfect frames on their site, upload your image easily via webcam, Facebook or file image at oscarwylee.com.au and try any of the frames in their virtual mirror. If you are a bit squeamish about trying before you buy, you can choose 5 favourites to trial at home free, head to the home trial checkout and follow the step-by-step instructions. Once your non-prescription sample frames arrive at your door you’ve got 5 days to see what works best, and then its just a matter of returning the samples and making your final selection via the online checkout.
The tortoiseshell Xanders with their lightweight Italian made acetate frames are probably my favourite, especially in the tinted sunglasses – perfect for this persistant summer sun. Check them out instead of dreading your next optical adventure!
