Dear Internets,

I was doing my weekly internet browsing when I came upon A Beautiufl Mess’ four simple goals. It’s nearing the end of the year which generally means failed new years resolutions. Uusually the standards are set unbelievably high and with yourself set up for failure, by week two you’ve resigned to return to your previous ways. There goes that incredible weight loss “plan” and vow to give up chocolate and shoes (yeah right).

Fortunately Elise has some simple goal setting rules for us to follow:

1. Choose simple goals that will make your life richer and happier on a daily basis. Choose things you may not otherwise get done but are not difficult to accomplish.

2. Do not choose result oriented goals. Choose activity oriented goals. For example, instead of “lose 10 pounds”, choose something like “eat fresh fruits and vegetables every day”. Get what I’m saying? Positive actions instead of just the end result!

3. Choose personal goals you believe will truly make your life richer just by doing them! They can be daily, weekly or one time experiences.

4. Choose a reward for each goal as it is accomplished! It can be a small or large reward—it’s up to you.

Now you’ve seem my goals and the rules, why not start on your own and leave a link in the comments if you post them. I’d love to hear about it!

  1. I like the idea of setting a goal about action, not just the end result! I wholeheartedly support all of your goals, especially the 1st one.:) I have 2 young mothers in my life and they’re starting to drive me crazy with their baby stories.:D I also like A Beautiful Mess’ goal about eating green food every day, that’s really healthy and smart!
