A direction, the potential next name of Kanye progeny or the quirky Canberran hotel I recently stayed in. I’ve spent many nights in Australia’s captial but only now am I discovering the joys of hotel living in the ACT. There a two options avaialble. You either get something amazing or stuck with the prickly end of a pineapple.
EAST, complete with a fuss free but moderate breakfast from the attached OX eatery, served as a great refuge from work and the freezing cold outside. Welcomed at the door with a self contained kitchen and a view of foggy tree tops, I set the room temperature to toasty and dived into the king sized bed. There was no other option but to embark upon a series of typical hotel relaxation activities like popping on a robe and slippers while playing spa day or sipping on something while staring out the window.
I cast my eye of over the mini bottles of Appelles wonderful beauty goop, scented exfoliating soap, and pretty pink bath salt crystals enticing me to try before I buy in the lobby downstairs.
Posing for cheesy adverts that don’t exist or tilting toasters sideways to melt blue cheese over fruit and nut toast, all perfectly fancy in the confines of what feels like your little appartment haven away from home. The only difference is , here there a lovely people who come by to make your bed and tidy after you despite none of them being called ‘mum’.
While a stove top is at your disposal, lets not forget, everything in Canberra is pretty close by. A trip to the boathouse for some fine dining, or cronuts and mochas at the cupping room are always options if you can weather the cold. The perfect work trip away is one where you’re comfortable. Head east.
