Do people save up for things anymore? Any time I express wanting something, there is always someone nearby suggesting that I jut go out and get it. I have never been a fan of owing people things, least of all money…partly because I have a tendency to forget how much I borrow or loan out. Personal loans are so easy to attain and accountability so low it seems crazy not to purchase the shoes I “deserve” or the new phone I have to have.

GIFT GUIDE: A GIRL LIKE ME

Dear Internets,

matcha

I’ve actually run out of space under my Christmas tree and have begun contemplating mounting the tree atop one of the larger gifts to reclaim floor space. Idealists often call it the season of giving and I can honestly say for me it’s about taking time to celebrate with family and to an extent the joy I get handing gifts over while simultaneously screaming “open it , open it!“. That’s one thing Santa got wrong, missing out on seeing the faces of people who get something they genuinely appreciate.

LINKY LOVE.

Dear Internets,

mum2

Mother’s day is coming up and since my mum occasionally looks at this blog, I can’t reveal what I got her and while there are a lot of gift guides floating around, how cute is this one from Elk accessories? I just love nanna’s, pastels and flowers!

BONUS TIP: we don’t want things for the house that need to be purchased anyway e.g. a replacement vacuum cleaner unless its a super fancy one mum has been circling in catalogs.

mumday

Here’s are some other clickable’s I’ve liked lately:

A single serve chocolate cake that knocks a mug cake out of the park for a little extra effort.

How cute is this paper lei. Not sure hubby would appreciate it for his ceremony though.

Pins and shrink plastic. Two fun faves combined.

The polarizing ingredient I’ve been craving for breakfast.

As if SMEG fridges weren’t cute enough before they were works of art.

Ryan Gosling & Russell Crowe at couples therapy.

DIRTY 30 WISHLIST

Dear Internets,

birthday collage

Easter is coming and every decade or so, my birthday along with it. I’m turning 30 and movies tell me I’m supposed to have some sort of 1/3 life crisis but I’m really looking forward to a chilled out birthday this year. As for gifts, my wish is a pretty basic list of don’ts
1. Don’t ask me any questions that require work, chores and planning
2. Don’t get me a red velvet cake (I’ve had far too many of those)

The above responses don’t go down too well when I get asked what I want so I’ve taken to making lists that will generally be ignored. Let the annual self imposed shopping ban commence!

  1. Mac Film Noir lippy $17.00 | Dark, sexy, mysterious chocolate lips by MAC can’t be a bad thing.
  2. Allbirds runners $95.00 | Wool, flexi and comfortable which is perfect since my current sneakers hurt
  3. Books: How to be Parisian… or this $27 | I love reading and beautiful books. If it were an option I would spend days in a book store.
  4. Jean Paul Gautier x Target leather jacket $?| Everyone needs a good leather jacket. Apparently I need two. (EDIT: My fam got me a pretty kick ass leather jacket to tide me over until I fall in love with another investment piece)bday
  5. Mejuri silver evil eye ring $48.00 | My preggo sausage fingers need love and a little good will. All that tummy rubbing calls for an evil eye ring. (EDIT: I bought this for myself. Shopping ban fail but self 5 for a great birthday gift!)
  6. iPhone 6s $1079 | Mat leave means giving up my phone to work. Can you go back after having good technology?
  7. Fossil Sydney satchel $299.00 | A good classic bag is always a good idea. (EDIT: Purchased in seafoam thanks to some peer nominated awards at work resulting in a very large volume of Myer gift cards. Wouldn’t say no to a good everyday leather bag in this colour though)
  8. Instax polaroid camera $88 | Pastel, cute and limited edition with lots of film! A perfect way to capture your birthday (EDIT: Maggie from La Petite Mademoiselle style blog got me the cutest candy pink version with two rolls of film & I got tears in my eyes. So unexpected!)
    wishlist 3
  9. Clarisonic $295 | Why do always put of taking time for ourselves, particularly when we never grow out of bad skin days?
  10. Gorman Gold rush skirt $119 | Shiny rad with an elastic waist means something to wear now and post baby. A celebration in a pleated skirt!
  11. Babyology annual subscription $199 | Who doesn’t like gifts in the mail every three months? Subscription boxes curb my online shopping too so yay for long term savings!
  12. Plantronics backbeat sense $270 | Because sometimes headphones are super annoying and I have too many podcasts to listen to! (EDIT: Hubby bought me the sport version of this. Comfy, great for work and great on the run, which i might have to do more of post baby)

Or you could just take care of dinner for me? Hope you’re having an amazing MARCH!

FOR THEM DADS

Dear Internets,

Gift guides are all over the place this time of year, many from stores all conveniently listing their brands boasting to have you sorted this father’s day. Today I bring you a collection of this I have considered getting the men in my life. Hopefully it hits a chord with the sporty, crazy, funny. men in your life who don’t really understand the point of cushions.

1.Triumph & Disaster. No this is not the succinct description of the way this gift is going to go down. Triumph & disaster are beautiful men’s toiletries including moisturizers, exfoliates and hair products from New Zealand. Seldom are men’s “beauty” products this considered and lovely. The stash box ($189 NZD) is a perfect idea for that facial hair’d dad.

2. Fitbit Charge $169 AUD. There are other trackers like Garmin that are great but if your dad is competitive go with the one that runs in the family. For us it’s the Fitbit and once the niceties of Father’s day is over, crush him in a work week challenge.

3. Jabra Move Bluetooth headphones $159 AUD. Bring dad back to the present and out of a tangled mess with these awesome wireless headphones. Great sound quality for those tech savvy dads constantly in front of their laptops, tablets or smart phones. Be warned, if your dad is none of these things but loves music, you are also investing in time figuring out how to get Abba onto whatever musically capable device while he explains the history of music technology in his lifetime.

4. Happy Socks $59.95 AUD gift boxWhy mess with the classics when socks and undies have worked for so many decades? Besides, we all know dads aren’t usually the best at upgrading the hole-y necessities. Why not upgrade it for them?

5. The Horse watch $139 AUD. They might have the gold ones, shiny ones or the ones with a million dials, the purpose of which they have no idea. Occasionally they’ll need to attend weddings or wear slacks and look like classy human beings. Why not help with a beautiful watch that won’t leave a dent in your mum’s wrist when they hold hands. So many colors to choose from, all of which are gorgeous.

Hopefully one of our top five makes it to the top of your dad’s favorite gifts. Mine is getting a family photo shoot and looks like this year hubby getting a self watering vertical garden. Clearly the men in my life are oddballs, evidenced by the Typo cards I picked for them this year. Gotta love ’em!
